Tell Me a Story

So... Tonight, my 7 yr old brother asked me to tell what happened to

"to the young senator that the bad guys thought they could trick into doing something wrong."

He knew about parlimentary procedure (thanks to Older Siblings who use it retain law and order at the dinner table when Mom is away).

He even knew what a telegram was!

I was impressed with my own brother.

I tucked him in bed and told him about how Senator Smith's father had been killed fighting for a Lost Cause, the Old Senator had died and Jefferson Smith was considered an Easy Replacement,  how the Bad Guy told lies about Senator Smith, and Senator Smith was going to go home... And he learned about the Filibuster. And he kept going, the Bad Guy controlled all the newspapers, but his Ranger Boys tried to get the word out until the Bad Guys ran them down.  How the Senator kept going... Talking and Talking. For over 23 hrs.

Until he fell down and fainted. And a lady screamed.

ha! And you thought I was going to tell you how it ended.

When it was over, he drew a long breath.

"Tell me another story," he said.

Like I was saying... Anything can happen in this town

This is the kind of stuff movies are made of...

On Friday, House Democrats turned out the lights, shut off CSPAN, turned off the mikes, shooed the press away, and went home.

The House Republicans didn't go home.

The Crypt summed it up best:

http://www.politico.com/blogs/thecrypt/0808/House_Dems_turn_out_out_the_light_but_GOP_keep_talking.html

CSPAN even issued a statement begging not to be blamed for not broadcasting: http://www.politico.com/blogs/thecrypt/0808/CSpan_Dont_blame_us_for_not_showing_GOP_revolt.html

ISN'T IT COOL??????????????????

There is only one correct answer to that question, btw.

Below is a list of the participants... If they happen to be from your state, it might be a good idea to call them up and say, "Thanks for sticking to your guns." You can find their number at http://www3.capwiz.com/mygov/officials/membersearch

Goals for Life

"When I grow up, I think I may be a maid for President Bush." Katrina. Aged 11.

I told her it was a Noble and Honorable idea.

I was keeping house with the girls for the day while their mommy recovers from a heart infection...

If you've never washed windows and scrubbed floors with Big Band music blaring, you don't know what you've missed.

On a Jet Plane...

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that

I'm almost sick,

kinda past tired,

my clothes smell like chocolate,

and I'm about to head out into the 'wide blue yonder' far away and 'over there,'

but I just felt like I *had* to go into my city

and say

"Good bye."

It's the strangest feeling... I know I have to go. I know this is the right step. But somehow, I feel like when I come back, things won't be quite the same anymore. And so I say,

"Goodbye... I will miss you... I mean, I won't -- But I will."

At the First Light of Dawn

This morning, I did something totally crazy and random...

I rolled out of bed at 4:45am (after going to bed at 12am. hehe.)

tumbled out the door...

into the cold darkness...

to go the Sunrise Easter Service at the Lincoln Memorial.

I think everyone should go and sing "He is Lord" on the steps on Easter morn, just as the sun is peeking up...

He is Risen!

He is Risen, indeed.
